OBej!OBej! The Christmas market of Milan

The traditional market around the Castello Sforzesco opens the Christmas Season

From 5 December to 8 December 2019, Milan celebrates its patron, Sant’Ambrogio at the most traditional and popular event of all : “Obej!OBej! Christmas Market” or “Fiera di Sant’Ambrogio”. This Milanese Festival, free entrance, has been winding around the Castello Sforzesco for five centuries, including piazza Castello, Via Gadio and piazza del Cannone.

Oh Bej!Oh bej! means “Oh nice!Oh Nice!” in local dialect. The traditions tells that in 1510 the Milanese children shouted for joy when they saw the gifts brought by Gianetto Castiglioni, the emissary of Pope Pius IV. This is the origin of the Milanese Christmas event.

During these days, Milan streets are full of people. A magical Christmas atmosphere with warm drinks and traditional food. Indeed, this is a must-see for locals and tourists! Don’t forget to taste the traditional Milanese Panettone along with Vin Brulè!

 

 

December 7th is the day of the première at the most famous Theatre of the World “La Scala”. It is a glamorous event for the city and tickets are not on sale, only on invitation. Nevertheless, the premiere will be screened live in the city, such us in the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele for free watching.
